Anyone that knows me well; my husband for one who has an amazing memory, will tell you that my memory is absolutely awful. If I were to try and reach back to important days in my life, the day I graduated college, my wedding, the birth of my children I cannot remember the events in the way I think I should. It has always bothered me, but at the same time that lack of a superior memory also eases the pain that may be associated with remembering and not being able to forget.
Photographs however, help me remember. I can tell you exactly where I took every image in my portfolio, regardless how obscure. What time of day it was, what the weather was like and the season. My photographs are my memory.
